Daily Ceremonies at Horse Guards
Combine your visit to the Household Cavalry Museum with one of the daily parades below.
Changing of The King's Life Guard
Watch the ceremony on Horse Guards Parade...
The King’s Life Guard is conducted by soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards.
Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted The King’s Life Guard here since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660.
What: Changing of the King’s Life Guard
When: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am
Please note there is no guard change on a weekend currently.
Whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties.
4 o'clock Inspection
Watch the daily inspection...
At 4pm every day there is a short parade in the court yard of Horse Guards known as ‘the four o’clock inspection’.
The duty officer inspects the Guard to ensure that they are well turned out and on duty, a tradition that dates back to Victorian times.
The public can watch this parade for free and combine it with a visit to the museum where you will usually see the soldiers feed the horses through the glass viewing window.
A great museum showing the Household Cavalry's roles in British history. My little one loved dressing up and drawing a picture for the queen. You can also see straight into the main stables where the horses and guards prepare for guard duties.
