Accessibility
Our museum is for all to enjoy. That’s why at the Household Cavalry Museum, we try to be accessible as possible.
When planning your visit, it might be useful to know the following:
- The Household Cavalry Museum comprises three rooms located on the ground floor of the Horse Guards building facing onto Horse Guards Parade.
- The Museum is fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible, though visitors are free to leave such by the front desk (at their own risk).
- The floor of the first gallery in the Museum is historic cobblestones and somewhat uneven.
Facilities
- There is a single accessible toilet and baby change facility within the Museum. There can be short queues during busy periods within the Museum; more facilities are available within St. James’s Park.
- There is visitor seating available within the galleries (both benches and folding chairs available for use).
- There is no café within the Museum, though there is one close by in St. James’s Park. Food and drink is not allowed within the Museum.
- There are no locker facilities available within the Museum and we cannot store large bags and suitcases at the front desk, so we discourage visitors from bringing these to the Museum with them. Rucksacks and smaller bags may be taken into the Museum, though staff reserve the right to search them for security reasons.
Concessionary tickets are available for visitors with disabilities and carers and access companions can visit the Museum free of charge.
- Regrettably, there is no BSL on videos (though some are English subtitled) however, we will soon start to run some BSL led tours. Please check our What’s On page.
- We allow registered Guide and Assistance dogs within the Museum.
- Photography is allowed within the Museum, though flash photography is prohibited.
- For security reasons, the Household Cavalry Regiment and the Metropolitan Police may obligate the Museum to close at short notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused should these circumstances arise.
- The Household Cavalry Museum can get busy on the weekends, after the Changing of the Guard or if we are hosting school groups. We would encourage visitors who dislike crowds and loud noises to avoid these times or call 02079303070 before visiting.
