October Half Term: Family Day

Join in the fun at the Household Cavalry Museum, this October Half Term and take part in our family activities!

Join us for a fun-filled Family Day at the Household Cavalry Museum, where history comes to life for visitors of all ages!

Explore the heritage of the British Army’s elite cavalry unit through engaging exhibits, interactive displays, and live demonstrations.

Children can get hands-on with activities like dressing up in the genuine uniforms, learning how to care for the horses, and discovering the fascinating stories of the soldiers who have served.

With special guided tours, family-friendly workshops, and the chance to meet the cavalry horses up close out on Whitehall, it’s a day of adventure and education that the whole family will enjoy.

Step into the heart of British military tradition and make lasting memories with us!

Throughout the day there will be:

  1. Hands on craft activities
  2. Dress up as a Household Cavalry Soldier and photograph opportunities
  3. Daily ceremonial activity of the King’s Life Guard
  4. Family trails

Event schedule

10.00 – Who are the Household Cavalry? talk in the Stables

11.00 – Mounted Inspection of the King’s Life Guard on Horse Guards Parade

12:00 – Horses of the Household Cavalry talk in the Stables

14.00 – Story Time: Cicero, The Queen’s Drum Horse – Come and learn about one of the most famous horses of the Household Cavalry. Find out how Cicero went from pulling a milk float in Edinburgh to being on the Queen’s Birthday Parade. Cicero not only had two books written about him, but was a guest star on ‘Blue Peter’ and a film was made about his life.

15.00 – Who are the Household Cavalry? talk in the Stables

16.00 – Daily Inspection of the King’s Life Guard

10am – 6pm, April to October / 10am – 5pm, November to March / Last admission 45 minutes before closing.

Planned closure:

The museum will be closed on Friday 18 October from 10am – 2pm due to exhibition maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes your visit.

The museum will be open from 2pm – 6pm (last admission at 5pm).
